It’s only natural that Sai Kung born and raised Xavier Tsang chose to run his candle shop in the verdant ‘back garden of Hong Kong’. BeCandle comprises 140m2 of retail and laboratory space (where customers can refill candles) and an upstairs space for workshops (the personalised, multisensory scentedcandle-making workshop* is a must-try). Everything is proudly made in Hong Kong with a blend of high-quality vegetal wax, essential oils and fragrances. Tsang’s background in furniture design explains his participation in exhibitions and creative collaborations, such as working with a local metalsmith to develop the shop’s bespoke scent tester. Highlights include candle vessels made using Sai Kung soil, in collaboration with designer Niko Leung, and a set of customisable, meditative kinetic aroma diffusers that work their magic as they spin.
