Home to The Hong Kong Polytechnic University School of Design, Jockey Club Innovation Tower was the first permanent work in Hong Kong by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Zaha Hadid. The building’s striking form – many liken it to that of a ship – is in stark contrast to that of its surroundings, expressing the dynamism of a forward-looking institution. As the Dame herself said: ‘The fluid character of the Innovation Tower is generated through an intrinsic composition of its landscape, floor plates and louvres that dissolves the classic typology of the tower and the podium into an iconic, seamless piece.’ The 15,000m² building also addresses the need for a creative and multidisciplinary environment by housing a lecture hall, classrooms, design studios and workshops, plus exhibition spaces and a communal viewing lounge. Visitors are welcome to get up close for a look at the boundless curves and waves indoors and outdoors.
