A hardware fetishist’s paradise in less than 9m², Kanamono offers a fascinating alternative to massproduced wares. Located on a corner and heralded by a sign-box bearing the Chinese character ‘gold’ within a boy’s face, it is arguably the most stylish shop of its kind in Hong Kong, and is stocked floor-to-ceiling with a dizzying selection of tools, hardware and lifestyle items (camping, anyone?) All are united by practicality and craftsmanship and are hand-selected by owner Sammi Wong, who also works in Architecture and interior design. Apart from its eccentric selection from the US, Germany and Japan, the shop also produces its own metalware to meet local needs.
