Sham Shui Po

Sham Shui Po was home to many factories that produced leather, fabrics and accessories, and hence was a convenient location for fashion and product designers to source materials for their creations. As one of the few remnants of that industrial era, Luen Cheong has been the epitome of that history and of Hong Kong leather goods since 1948. Now third-generation run, the shop specialises in vegetabletanned cow hides. The four-storey shophouse’s original railings and patterned floor tiles are holdouts from the old days after two renovations. Upstairs, a former staff dormitory is now an exhibition space called Upper Deck Tai Nan, hosting an eccentric mixture of cultural events, while other local handcraft creative units take up residence in the attic and rooftop area.
