Hidden behind an anonymous red door is one of the city’s best-kept secrets. It’s understandable that art and fashion types are drawn to the ‘gintoneria’ created by owners Hugh Zimmern and Juan Martínez Gregorio, who ingeniously turned an old pingpong hall into a stylish Spanish gin bar. Among the bare concrete pillars, the aluminium window grilles so common in the city have been retained and are playfully referred to in an installation by local artist Nadim Abbas. There’s also graffiti calligraphy by the King of Kowloon and a sign reading ‘Keep your body fit’. Enjoy the wide selection of gins and tonics, from Spanish brand Gin Xoriguer to locally owned Perfume Trees and soak up the cool atmosphere and roominess of the space.
