TOKI NASHIKI
Kwai Tsing & Tsuen Wan
Behind a heavy metal door is the studio of TOKI NASHIKI, the ceramic art collective founded by Wy Lee and Ryan Hui. Inside, an exhibition space precedes the workshop, where antiques, fabrics, vases and furniture accompany pottery work. A mainstay of local and regional exhibitions, the collective constantly pushes its artistic boundaries through studying the Chinese tea ceremony, taking inspiration from The Classic of Tea – Lu Yu’s tea-lover’s bible, from about 760CE – as well as trips to Taiwan and Japan. The resultant works are distinctive, white clay and flower- shaped tea pots, perfect for tea rituals, coffee-making and everyday use.
