This H-shaped hostel building was originally part of the Shek Kip Mei Estate, built in the wake of a widespread fire that left almost 58,000 people homeless in 1953 and marked the start of Hong Kong’s public housing policies. Now revitalised, Mei Ho House offers 129 rooms including nostalgic themedroom and a heritage museum documenting public housing and living conditions in Hong Kong from the 1950s to the ’70s. The recipient of an honourable mention in the 2015 UNESCO Asia-Pacific Heritage Awards for Cultural Heritage Conservation, the popular youth hostel is also a gateway to the district’s unique culture.

Winner of the DFA Design for Asia Awards 2015 Merit - Revitalization Scheme - By AD+RG Architecture Design and Research Group Ltd.
