Yuet Tung China Works
Kowloon City & Kwun Tong
Trading since 1928, Yuet Tung once employed 300 painters and was Hong Kong’s largest manufacturer of handdecorated porcelain. Today it stands as the city’s last factory of its kind. Specialising in guang cai – a Guangzhou- style of painted porcelain dating back to the Qing Dynasty – it is now managed by third-generation Joseph Tso, who is taking its precious art into the future via media interviews, bespoke orders from restaurants and collaborations with museums and department stores. At the factory, a handful of master craftsmen continue painstakingly to hand paint intricate patterns on white porcelain, adding adornments to plates, saucers, bowls and jars of every shape and size. It’s a trove worthy of a treasure hunt.
