Crafts on Peel is a charitable organisation to revive, reinterpret and perpetuate traditional craftsmanship by fostering collaborations between traditional craftsmen and contemporary artisans through apprenticeship and exchange of techniques, with the aim of nurturing the younger generations to incorporate traditional skills into innovative contemporary designs, to breathe new life into traditional crafts so that the values of traditional craftsmanship can be integrated to our times.
The organisation is situated in a revitalised 3-storey tenement built in 1948. The site serves as a creative venue to enhance public appreciation of craftsmanship and juxtapose traditional crafts with modern lifestyles through exhibitions, workshops and Crafts Fellowship Programme. Here at Crafts on Peel, besides the interplay of original architectural features and new designed elements, on display are exhibits of Hong Kong and Asian crafts from our permanent collection. They were featured in different themed exhibitions accordingly but are now displayed together to showcase the endless possibilities of invigorating crafts with a contemporary twist.
The Creative Director of Crafts on Peel, Penelope Luk, and the Founder of Eureka, an architectural studio for the building's revitalisation project, Annette Chu, will lead the guided tour. Joining forces, they provide a comprehensive introduction to the architectural history of and the role of crafts in this space.
