HK Island - Sheung Wan

Oi Ling Gallery will present three disparate elements of ancient architecture, often the unsung heroes of old design. The first will be a selection of antique carved window panels and screens from houses around China. Most date from the 17th to 19th century period of the Qing dynasty. Secondly there will be a display of stunning and nostalgic photos taken by local photographer Simpson Wong (author of “The Allure of Old Hong Kong”)to document the variety of inlaid tiles and shutters seen in old buildings throughout Hong Kong. Sadly so many of these artefacts are being lost to modernization. And thirdly there will be on display newly-created acrylic/ink paintings of old buildings and street scenes found in Hong Kong and Guangzhou, showing, for example a piece titled “ Old vs Modern” juxtaposing the traditional roof top of an old building with a modern concrete housing block. This collection of paintings is from a local Hong Kong artist Aixingero Bill.
